Shapoorji Pallonji Group prepares for major celebrations in 2015 as it observes its 150th anniversary of incorporation.
Established in Mumbai in 1865, Littlewood Pallonji & Co. (Shapoorji Pallonji’s original name) was appointed to build the reservoir in the Malabar Hills district of the city, which after completion served its residents for 100 years. During this period, the company significantly diversified its project portfolio to include commercial property, hotels, factories, health care facilities, residential projects, stadiums, airports, educational institutes and power plants.
Developing a strong domestic presence throughout India, its first venture into the Middle East occurred forty-four years ago in 1970 after being awarded the contract to construct the palace of His Majesty, the Sultan of Oman. Aside from the prestige of winning such a contract, it also heralded Shapoorji Pallonji as the first Indian construction company to work in the Middle East.
In light of this significant milestone, the company which now forms over fifteen companies, spread over four continents, has created an anniversary logo, designed to symbolise longevity, diversity, solidity and growth. According to members of the creative team, the philosophy behind the new logo was to show how Shapoorji Pallonji’s success has been in part thanks to the collaborative contributions of employees, business partners and customers alike.
Speaking on behalf of the company, managing director and CEO, MD Saini said, “Few companies achieve the accolade of being in business for one and a half centuries, so we’re particularly proud of what we’ve achieved during this time. While our origins rest in India, our strong presence in the MENA region over the past forty-four years has helped to redefine and establish our brand as an international one. We look forward to continuing our growth and celebrating many more anniversaries to come.”
Having further diversified into a wide range of sectors including real estate, biofuels, agriculture, shipping & logistics, Shapoorji Pallonji is primed to capitalise on the anticipated regional growth of the construction market and continue to expand its legacy as a major international contractor.
